Professional Camera Installation FAQ
What makes an installation "professional" rather than just mounting cameras?
The mounting is the easy part. Professional installation means the coverage is designed before anything is drilled: lens and mounting height chosen per view, cameras positioned against the light rather than into it, frame rate and retention set to match how long you would realistically need footage, cabling terminated and tested, and the finished system documented so the next person can work on it.
Our IT company or electrician installed ours. Is that a problem?
Not necessarily a problem, but it is a common source of the complaint we hear most: the cameras work, the footage does not. Electricians and IT teams handle the power and network side competently. What usually gets missed is the security-specific part, which is choosing views that can actually identify a person rather than confirm that someone was there.
Why does our footage turn out useless exactly when we need it?
Usually the camera was mounted too high and too wide, so everyone in frame is a shape rather than a face. After that it is backlighting at glass entrances, frame rates too low to catch a plate or a hand movement, and retention set short enough that the clip is gone by the time anyone goes looking.
Can't we just use consumer camera kits at a small business?
They are built for a house, and it shows once a business uses them: user limits, per-camera cloud fees, dependence on the office Wi-Fi, awkward evidence export, no multi-site view, and nobody to call when a camera drops offline. Coverage that would cost you three kits is often better served by a properly designed commercial system.
How do you decide where cameras go?
We walk the property and separate the views that need to identify a person, such as entrances, registers, and door approaches, from the views that only need to show what happened, such as aisles, yards, and docks. Those two jobs need different cameras, heights, and angles, which is the decision that gets skipped most often.
What does the installation itself include?
Site survey and written camera layout, cabling and terminations, mounting and aiming, recorder or cloud setup, retention and user configuration, secure remote access, a walkthrough with your team, and documentation of what was installed and where.
Will the work disrupt business operations?
We schedule around your operating hours and can work evenings or weekends when an area needs to stay clear. Cable pulls and ladder work get staged so occupied space is disturbed as little as possible.
Can you correct an installation another company did?
Yes, and it is a large share of what we do. Re-aiming, re-mounting at usable heights, fixing terminations, retuning detection zones, and correcting retention often recovers most of a disappointing system without replacing the cameras.
What happens after the installation is finished?
Preventative maintenance, camera health checks, firmware and software updates, troubleshooting, repairs, and expansion as the facility changes. A camera that quietly stopped recording three months ago is the same as no camera at all, which is what the service plan exists to prevent.

Install went great! Guys were professional, work was completed quickly and everything turned out great!
SCC did a great job from start to finish. We are very pleased with the results.
We had 3 of our own security cameras installed and the job was completed super fast and they were fair with prices, and very professional. We needed an adjustment to 1, and they were prompt and came back and adjusted. Definitely would recommend!
I'd like to send the highest of compliments to Security Cameras of Dayton! My company recently had them complete the installation of cameras over our 56-acre apartment community. We've been incredibly impressed with the customer service, ease of use and speed of their work. Every team member that has helped us was kind and a pleasure to work with.
We have been working with SCOD for a few months now on a couple of different installations. The installation techs were phenomenal! They ensured the installation went extremely smooth with no gaps in the system. I couldn't ask for a group of more professional individuals. We asked for quotes through three different companies and SCOD came out ahead in end. Their products are not junk though. Very well made, high quality cameras. I will be reconnecting with them for any future changes!
Aaron and Dakota did a fantastic job at our business. They were quick and efficient and made a point to clean up after they were done. They made the process very easy to understand and provided all the information needed. Thanks!
Our experience from sales to installation and training was outstanding. We are extremely happy with the product. The installers were extremely knowledgeable and professional. Excellent communication from sales to installation. Highly recommend this company.
We had security cameras installed at two apartment complexes in the Dayton area in August 2022. Installation process was superb. Lead tech was very helpful and rest of team polite. After several months of using systems, I can't say enough good things about the systems.!
